Pride Weekend Report
This just in from my relentless reporters Scott & Russell…
Hey Guys!
We figured we’d e-mail you some photos from Pride weekend in Chicago. Scott and I ran in the annual to Run 10K. We both finished in 52 minutes, a couple minutes longer than we’d hoped. But the day was so pleasant that we quickly forgot about that and enjoyed the festivities.
As you can see, there were plenty of colorful outfits, friendly people and wacky entertainment. The twirling marine-types are known as the, Recklessly Outrageous Twirling Corps. They’re an annual feature in the Pride Parade.
George Takei, also known as helms officer Sulu from the original Star Trek presented the top runners with their medals. In addition to saying how lucky he was to be able to greet all of these sweaty and healthy, good looking people, he spoke of his reason for coming out, namely his disappointment with Arnold Schwarzenegger for his refusal to affirm marriage rights to gay Californians. In a radio interview later that evening, he spoke of his frightening experience as a child when the government interned his entire family during the Second World War. These experiences plus his celebrity status made him an excellent Grand Marshal for the Pride Parade.
Thank you Scott & Russell.
